A spoken word video about breastfeeding in public by Holly McNish has been popping up on various feeds during this long weekend. Her words ring true for so many women, including me.
Watch the video here, now with words.
But after six months of her life sat sitting on lids as she sips on her milk nostrils sniffing up piss Trying not to bang her head on toilet roll dispensers I wonder whether these public loo feeds offend her?
This video captures so much of what I felt as a new breastfeeding mother. The fear of someone telling me something negative while nursing in public was almost crippling. The first time I nursed E at a place that wasn’t a doctor’s office, I took him into the handicapped stall at a PF Chang’s and tried to nurse him. It was so disgusting. I couldn’t handle knowing that someone else had defecated in the same TINY space as I was trying to feed my baby. Hearing someone flush a few stalls away was just too much for me. I grabbed him and got out. I’m thankful for the support from my husband and other nursing mom friends, it helped get me out of the ladies room!
Thank you, Holly, for so succinctly capturing the frustrations and worries moms nursing in public!
